First 5 San Mateo County, along with the First 5 Association of California, is applauding Governor Newsom’s proposed 2023-24 budget plan, which was released Tuesday. The budget continues to demonstrate a commitment to provide for the needs of young children and their families and build toward an improved early childhood system.
This includes a focus on better compensating early childhood educators and bringing down the cost of early care and education for families, as well as critical investments in health. Here at First 5 San Mateo County, we are working on these things each and every day for the families in our county–we are excited that the state of California is continuing to invest in these areas too.

“With adequate funding, the local First 5 infrastructure we have built over the last 25 years is ready and able to deliver our collective vision for California’s children.”
