As we approach the upcoming holidays we all remain concerned about the impacts of the recent tumultuous and divisive election.
We know that many children and families may be afraid — afraid of being deported, being separated from their families, being attacked or bullied because of race, religion, sexual identity, language and national origin. Families who rely on health insurance through Medicaid or Covered California may be fearful of losing their coverage. Regardless of your choices at the polls, the most difficult part at this point in time is the uncertainty. It is unclear how the changes in Washington, D.C, statewide and locally, will affect us.
First 5 San Mateo is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in our county. Now more than ever, we must come together as a community to reassure our children that they are safe and that we will protect them. We must also ensure that all children in San Mateo County are afforded every opportunity for health, education, safety and wellbeing.
We are so fortunate to live in this county and work as part of a 0-5 provider community that offers safety and quality services to vulnerable families and children. We thank all of our providers, non-profits, community based organizations, and civic leaders for their dedication and steadfast commitment to the success of all young children and their families…..no matter where they come from, what their economic background is, their ethnicity, race, gender, or culture. We share that commitment and value with you.
