At First 5 San Mateo County, we stand against racism, oppression, and inequality in all its forms. We condemn the recent rise in racist aggression, acts, and violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans. Our hearts are with the individuals that have been targeted and attacked.
Racism is systemic. It is a public health issue that deeply affects our community. Experiences of bias, social, and systemic racism are harmful to children, and result in fear, stress, and trauma that steal away their full potential. We stand in solidarity with our partners and with all who pursue equity, justice, and human dignity.
Our work on behalf of children and families is more important than ever. We will continue to work to change conditions that affect child development and family well-being. We will continue to prioritize equity and dismantling systemic racism. All children have the right to grow up healthy, safe, and with every opportunity.
